Hi everyone, I needed to go away and further the research and development of this technology before returning. Here I am with a video of a construction which exaggerates the forces of gravity, inertia and centrifugal so you can see them in action and how they help produce rotation in the device shown on the 1st page of the thread. https://www.dropbox.com/s/c5b5oqgz8aurefh/Max Rotations.mp4 Has anyone got any suggestions on how to minimize the backlash? Please bear in mind that to produce usable torque, more weight and arms are needed to produce enough inertia, which is where we are considering most of the energy comes from. It seems that roller coasters are the main user of this energy. Best regards, Paul

I see that you are in phase two of my predicted evolution of the device. I believe phase two is where a prototype is made but doesn't quite work and needs just a tweak (backlash free pivots) to work. Here is my prediction: these will be incorporated and it will STILL be JUST SHY of working and will need something (say, a low friction cam surface treatment) and THEN it will work.

I think you have a nice hobby there. I am glad you are enjoying it.
 
personally I think the real holy grail of mechanical dsign is negative thickness material. If I had that I could build a box that is bigger on the inside than the outside. Then stuffing the proverbial "ten pounds into a five pound bag" would be mere child's play.
 
It is a cute toy; It will never create energy, but it is a cute toy...
 
Yes, Maniac, the Industrial Designers will be all over it! Nanotechnology may not be small enough for the negative thickness. How about Nanoo-Nanoo technology? (excuse the TV show reference if you didn't ever watch Mork & Mindy)
 
Maniacal Engineer - Thank you for your suggestion. For some reason the enter button to start a new line is not working on the forum. This is the reason for one large paragraph. Strambo, whilst your comments are amusing, I do not wish to get dragged into a discussion about whether it creates energy. Of course it doesn't "create" energy as energy transfers from one form to another. What you are currently experiencing is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance. I would like to keep the thread positive and on topic. If you haven't got any positive suggestions to improve the design please find another thread to post in. At least give me the chance to prove whether the device works as claimed or not without derailing the thread. Many thanks, Paul.

Yes, but they have a limited angular range and they are basically spring loaded, that is there is a spring/ centering tourque associated with them. they have a preferred angular position to which they will try to return. The energy is conserved ie there is very very little hysteresis, but there is a springiness, and there is a limited range. But they dissipate essentially NO energy.

I hope you are successful. If it works i will put one at me house and sell the excess power to my neighbors. If it works YOU build one, cut ties to the grid, and run your fridge and air conditioning and TV on it.

I hope you get very rich and save the planet.

I really really do.


But I think it is less likely than me winning the lottery when i don't buy a ticket.
