Simple question. What's the best one and why? Please let me know if I forgot any socftware packages and I'll add them to the poll.
How about ANSYS SPACECLAIM? I use it and having come from using SDRC's IDEAS, and UGNX, along with some others, I think this package for the small to intermediate sized firm is the best on the market.

I haven't had a lot of experience with different types of 3d CAD software, but I have been using Inventor for about a decade, in my opinion:
PROS: Stable, works very smoothly with existing AutoCAD files, very easy to learn and use, excellent sheet metalwork tools, good analysis tools, excellent support
CONS: Memory heavy for more complicated projects, not great for complicated shapes, rendering not that good (unless you use Showcase)

Hi Gareth,

I have used 5 out 7 packages mentioned in the poll and my answer to such poll/debate is (if administrators allow me):

https://farhanengr.wordpress.com/2017/04/10/ansys-vs-abaqus-vs-solidworks-vs-creo-vs-autocad/

Every user has a preference and every software has pros and cons but these skills are transferable to a great degree, so it doesn't matter which software you use.

This is my opinion only, however it is based on experience.

No negativity, just the facts :)

How about Onshape?

I haven't used Onshape extensively recently, and I know the pace of improvement continues to be blistering, but my impression is that it still isn't quite 'there' yet. It has huge potential, but it doesn't have as much functionality as the big boys at this time.
